Student activist Ki-young flees to a dying coal mining town to avoid being arrested by the police. He ends up getting a job at a charcoal briquet factory and meets a coffee shop waitress with a side gig as a prostitute, Young-sook. Sung-cheol, the factory owner’s only son, has had his eye on Young-sook for some time now. Young-sook notices that Ki-young is different from the men she has been seeing, and finds her attraction to him is reciprocated.
