PROGRAM NOTE
This stylistically daring film audaciously explores the history of exploitation between white men and Aboriginal women, juxtaposing the ‘first encounter’ between colonizers and native women with the attempts of modern urban Aboriginal women reversing their fortunes.
DIRECTOR
Tracey Moffatt
Born in 1960, Australia, Tracey Moffatt studied visual communications in college. She made her directorial debut in 1987 with Nice Coloured Girls, which gained her international attention. In 1990, Night Cries - A Rural Tragedy was selected at the Cannes Film Festival and her feature debut, BeDevil (1993) was also screened at Cannes. Also an acclaimed photographer, Moffatt’s work is showcased throughout the world.
